Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy

Bavaria is one of the leading high-tech regions in Europe. The Bavarian State Government has always placed a major focus on the aerospace industry. World leading OEMs, tier 1 suppliers and niche suppliers – often market leaders in their respective fields – are headquartered in Bavaria.

European Space Agency (ESA)

The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe’s gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.

German Aerospace Center Space Administration (DLR)

DLR is Germany’s national research centre for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, transportation and energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.

Kreissparkasse München Starnberg Ebersberg

With total assets of 11 billion euros, Kreissparkasse manages numerous corporate clients in one of the economically strongest regions in Germany. It provides a specialised consulting unit for startups.

Sparkasse Nürnberg

Technical Partners

German Aerospace Center Oberpfaffenhofen (DLR)

DLR is Germany’s national research centre for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, transportation and energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.

As Germany’s Space Agency, the German federal government has given DLR responsibility for the forward planning and implementation of the German space programme as well as international representation of Germany’s interests.

Aeronautics and space make substantial contributions to the way we live today. Aviation guarantees our global mobility and satellites enable worldwide communication. Remote sensing generates data about our environment, while the exploration of space leads to new knowledge about the origin and development of the Solar System, its planets, and, hence, about the creation of life.

Moreover, key industries, including materials technology, medicine and software engineering, all profit from innovations made by DLR in the fields of aeronautics and space.

Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS)

Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen, Germany, ranks first among the Fraunhofer Institutes in terms of headcount and revenue. Fraunhofer IIS has reached worldwide recognition as the main inventor of MP3 and co-inventor of the MPEG-4 AAC audio coding standard.

In close cooperation with partners and clients, the institute provides research and development services in the following areas: digital radio broadcasting systems; audio and multimedia technology; digital cinema systems; design automation and integrated circuits; wired, wireless and optical networks; localization and navigation; camera and imaging systems; nanofocus X-ray technology; medical sensor solutions; and supply chain services.

Positioning and navigation – core competencies of Fraunhofer IIS:
Positioning and tracking have myriad uses and benefit a range of industries, such as in helping driver assistance systems determine their location; steering construction machines; empowering mobile guidance systems; tracking forklifts in warehouses, soccer players on fields, or security staff on company premises; and managing assets. Each application obviously requires specific technology.

To be able to meet the requirements associated with this diversity of applications, IIS has consolidated its positioning and navigation expertise within a single research unit in Nuremberg, where more than 80 engineers and computer scientists in three departments pool a wide array of skills. The institute’s solutions range from wireless sensor networks and adaptive antennas to satellite navigation systems. Over 10 different IIS positioning technologies can be adapted, advanced, and combined to produce tailor-made prototypes and systems.

The Ludwig Bölkow Campus (LBC) was officially founded in March 2012 with the aim of establishing an international hub for groundbreaking innovations, new ways of thinking, and practical training in the aerospace and security industry. The campus is to serve as a place where science, education, and industry come together from all over the world in a creative environment that helps innovative ideas turn into real products. A central focus of activities on the LBC is the targeted implementation of research findings into products ready for market. In order to cover the entire innovation process chain “from the idea to the product”, numerous spin-offs are to be established on the LBC and the establishment of start-up businesses is being promoted.
